Gods Love
#1
I believe that one of the primary reasons God gave us the responsibility of having our own children was to understand how he loves us.
You don't sit down to colour in a picture or play a game with your child or any child for that matter in order to show your superiority over them, do you? Instead, you choose to limit yourself so as to assist the progress of forming and honoring that relationship.
You'll even go as far as losing a competition to accomplish love. It's not about winning or losing but it's about love and respect.
When God sent his son Jesus from heaven to earth, they both placed limits on themselves in order to bring us into their relationship of love.
They placed limits on themselves out of respect for us because they love us so much.
True relationships based on love are not about power, and God through his son avoided the will to power by limiting themselves in order to serve us.

Think about this for a moment: John 3:16-21 (Message bible)
“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.
“This is the crisis we’re in: God-light streamed into the world, but men and women everywhere ran for the darkness. They went for the darkness because they were not really interested in pleasing God. Everyone who makes a practice of doing evil, addicted to denial and illusion, hates God-light and won’t come near it, fearing a painful exposure. But anyone working and living in truth and reality welcomes God-light so the work can be seen for the God-work it is.”

Think about the reason why God loves us. He wants us all to experience that same relationship that his firstborn son Christ has right now.

Hebrews 2:5-12 "It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. But there is a place where someone has testified:
“What is mankind that you are mindful of them,
a son of man that you care for him?
You made them a little lower than the angels;
you crowned them with glory and honor
and put everything under their feet.”

In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them.  But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered.  Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. He says,
“I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters;
in the assembly I will sing your praises.”

When Adam and Eve chose to have an independent relationship from God they were thrown into darkness, dependant on themselves. Jesus came to put the world right again. Independence from God clearly revealed it's futility and God wants us to return to him.
The Bible is a book based on the independence and dependence on a relationship with God. The ultimate example of a relationship with God was found in Jesus who became the pioneer or leader to God. He came down to us to show us the way back to him.

What can all those who return to God expect in the future?
Revelation 21:2,3 "I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God."

We can see that ultimately, all who follow their leader Christ to the end will be glorified and dwell with Christ and God in a relationship which has been perfected in love. That was Gods will from the start and it will be accomplished in the end.

The cool thing about what God has done is he has created a way where the physical world is linked to the spirit world through Jesus.
Because there is no darkness in God at all means God can not accept sin, and because of Adam we are legally in darkens, or in sin,
and on top of that because we are flesh we sin, from this we are un-acceptable to God.

God has created a way where we can be his Children by choice if we choose to believe in his only begotten son Jesus.
God has also created a way where his Children can experience sin and from this process learn our Fathers love, as you mentioned Jeremy,
we become perfected in love from this process.

God has created a way where by linking the physical world and spirit world through Jesus means we can access the Spirit, which means
by our choice the Spirit will lead us form the darkness, which is from sin, into the light, which is to our Father.
Without Jesus we cannot access the Spirit and remain in darkness, this is also by our choice, as below.
John 3:19 and 20 They went for the darkness because they were not really interested in pleasing God. Everyone who makes a practice
of doing evil, addicted to denial and illusion, hates God-light and won’t come near it, fearing a painful exposure.

We can see from this scripture what stands in the way of God's love for us.
It is ourselves, God's love still remains if we choose.

Hey Chris, this could probably follow on from your weekly scripture of 1 Timothy 1:18-20. A really interesting scripture at that. Instead I thought I'd post it here as it also ties in. In fact everything ties in to this subject.

The law of sin leads to death. This is the fear that prompts honest hearted ones into looking for a law that leads to life? Jesus said that he was the way, the truth and the life. So the law of faith in Jesus helps us to find that road that diverts away from death. This law leads us to something even more greater because soon faith will pass away when it is met. Notice how Jesus said "he was the way", but way to what?

To answer this question we need to understand how we can conquer sin because both questions have the same answer?

Chris mentioned that if we sin how our love for sin is greater than our love for God. We can't be slaving for two masters. That's saying, if we sin we don't have Gods Love. God's love is waiting for us but is not in us. Jesus was the way which leads us to God's Love.

John 17:3 " And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." What is God? God is love.

It's not faith alone which can save us but it's knowing or understanding God's love which is revealed through our faith. Without Christ coming we would have been left in the dark, not coming to know God. To accept Christ is to accept God. Once we fully understand God's love and accept it, we will stop sinning as our love for sin (darkness) has been exposed by the life-giving spirit of God's love (light) through Jesus.

To live in darkness is to live as a self-centered person, selfish, always looking for his own interests and pleasing his own fleshly desires and wants. To live in the light is putting off that old personality and caring for others as you would yourself, looking out for the interests of others and putting them first. To be hospitable to others with kindness and goodness at the expense of our own wants and desires.
We should live as true examples of persons showing the self sacrificing spirit of God's love so that others may see God through us and hopefully turn to God also. We can only live like this though if we truly understand how God loved us first.

Understanding God's love and accepting it we will naturally be healed or cleansed of sin so that God's love through his holy spirit can inhabit our earthly temple (body) so that we can reflect his image before others.
When we have the desire to be like God (God is Love) not (God is power), there is no room for sin.

Here is what God is: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. -1 Corinthians 13. If we truly reflect this can we really sin?

This is how God treats his sons and daughters as we are all his. When we accept God into our very being we will reflect this love to all our brothers and sisters here on earth, whether Greek, Jew, Muslim, American, rich or poor, slave or freeman...etc

Romans 8:1,2"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death."

To sin is to die. To live is to know God. To know God is to love God. To love God is to have God within us. And love remains forever.

Matthew 22:34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.
35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Notice the order in which Jesus listed the commands, the second is to love your neighbour as yourself this is second to Love God with all our heart therefore it must
be of significance to be second.
If we analyze this we will see yet another example of hidden treasure within God's word.
If we are working on repenting from sin we will also put on Love, because if we war against Sin/Satan means we love God with our whole heart and soul and mind,
and from this war Love is perfected within us, and because Love is perfected within us and because God is Love automatically means God is perfected in us.

From Love we walk by Spirit and are able to produce the fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law
Another example of fruit Jeremy referred to, which is in 1 Corinthians 13.

If we walk in sin, as by the flesh, this is the fruit of the flesh.
Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies,
outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand,
just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

We can see why to love your neighbour as yourself is second, because if we have the first command and have God's love within our self we will be able
to treat others with the Love that resides in us, which is the love of God, which produces the fruits of the Spirit.

From our repentance of sin and taking up the fight against sin and the perfecting of Love within us we automatically become doers of the law (God's Word)
The hidden treasures in this is how God has made Love the tool in which we automatically become lawful as appose to enforcing the law (God's Word)
as Scribes, Sadducees  and Pharisees, which does not work because to enforce the law (God's Word) means there will be resistance, because sin also resides,
whereas if we Love God with our whole heart soul and mind, which is the law (God's Word) means we do the law because we are willing, as God and God's Love resides.
